Behind the scenes photoshoot with Barry J Holmes
We were privileged to work with a terrific photographer, Barry J Holmes from Los Angeles. Barry primarily photographs celebrity’s on stage and on set but agreed to do this special shoot with us on the playa. The results exceeded all of our expectations. We got to spend some time hanging with Barry out there and the guy is blast.
We owe a big thanks to Lauren and Stilgar for being there to assist and giving up precious playa time to work on the shoot with us. Their help was instrumental in the process. I also owe Grant thanks for loaning me his generator in order for us to power the studio strobes.
Profile of Matt “Poki” McCorkle
At age 16, Matt “Poki” McCorkle boldly attended an afterschool “Circus Club”.
Here, in the box of toys, Matt found a set of poi. He found these wildly exciting.
A year later, poi in hand, Matt was bit by the performance bug. Hard.
This bug, it is said, rekindled a childhood passion for the stage lights.
Before he could realize it (or graduate college) poi turned to club swinging, diabolo, juggling, unicycling, miming, hats, clowning, hoop illusions, and more. Two years ago Matt tripped and fell into his hoop. Here, inside, he trained in total “isolation”. He emerged, recently, and began reconnecting with loved ones and society. Since, Matt and his hoop have traveled and performed all over the world, but his favorite performance of all is still the one he did for you.
Matt was born in Sebastopol, CA, spent some time in Davis, and now resides at the Prop Box Studio in Oakland.
When he’s not hooping, Matt silent films, bicycles, and hats.
